You have to remember that the ending of the first game is a very emotional part of the game. I think people are being butthurt about Ellie not looking pretty and composed in the screenshot provided by OP.
Other photos of Ellie's new face design look really good. Why didn't they use this model? It's more or less perfect. Maybe it's still not 100% consistent compared to her model from the first game, but that model at least feels like Ellie and it's definitely a massive improvement compared to how she looks in the game. But sadly that's just some artists interpretation and not the in-game model for Part II. I really liked Ellies rendition in the cosplay guide from 2019, that's how I imagined an adult Ellie. Instead of evolving and naturally aging the model from the first game they made a contrived effort to completely redesign her for Part II (both as an adult and as a child in the flashbacks). I have the feeling that the developers (and Druckmann) constantly fought over and reworked her design and that's probably why it looks like it's all over the place.
I simply don't believe that I'm watching and playing as the same character from the first game. The new models for Ellie (AND Joel btw.) simply don't feel like Ellie and Joel, they feel like impersonators, and seeing those new models (in trailers and the leaked footage) is that noticeable and distracting to me that it constantly breaks my suspension of disbelief and takes me right out of the experience. Just a very strange decision that baffled me right from the start when I saw the first trailer in 2017. Watching the trailers and the leaked footage she almost looks like a different person and there is very little consistency compared to the first game. Naughty Dog completely changed her model for the second game.
